Nutrition services

The food you eat can play a huge role in helping you to feel good. And unfortunately, not all diets are created equal. That's especially true when you're dealing with a serious health issue such as cancer or heart disease. These illnesses can change the way you respond to food, and they could change the types of foods that are best for you to eat.

At Berger Health System, our experienced team of dietitians can help. We offer both inpatient and outpatient nutrition education and guidance, so you can get the diet help you need.

Inpatient nutrition management

When you're admitted to Berger Hospital, you'll be connected with a dietitian. Your dietary needs will be assessed, and you'll have a meal plan prepared for you, based on that assessment.

The types of foods you'll need to eat can vary, depending on your condition. For example, a diabetic diet might be very different froman appropriate cancer diet. Our nutritionists have the skill and expertise to create a plan that's right for your condition, so you can eat right while in the hospital.

When you're ready for discharge, your dietitian can provide individual and family nutrition education, so you'll be prepared to eat right at home too.

Outpatient nutrition education

If you need the help of a dietitian, but you're not admitted to the hospital, the Berger Health System team can assist. We offer daytime individual consults with a dietitian. Here, you can learn about common nutrition issues, including:

  • Weight loss.
  • High blood pressure diets.
  • Eating for heart health.
  • Diabetes nutrition therapy.
  • Eating well with cancer.
  • Gaining weight.

To take advantage of our outpatient services, you'll need a referral from your physician. Then, our Central Scheduling department will set up your appointment.

Our hours of operation

We are available Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. On weekends and holidays we have dietitians on call to serve our patients if needed. Our experienced dietitians promote the support and patient health and nutrition throughout the length of your stay.
