The Friends of Berger women’s group holds an annual holiday fruit, nut and cheese sale to raise dollars for scholarship support to advance the training of Berger Health System clinical employees, therefore benefiting Berger Health System and direct patient care. The results from their sale provides approximately $2,000 annually to the fund, which has helped dozens of employees over the past few years.

Berger Family Assistance Fund

The Berger Family Assistance Fund is a program funded by Berger Health Foundation to help Berger Health System employees who may experience unforeseeable hardships. Temporary financial assistance is provided to employees in an effort to help ease the stress of such unfortunate situations.

To get help from the Berger Family Assistance Fund, start by contacting a Facilitator:

  • Debbie Starner, Patient Financial Services (740.420.8021)
  • Kathy Kanitz, Berger Health Foundation (740.420.8093)

Once the employee has contacted a Facilitator to submit their hardship, the Facilitator will review their needs to determine if they qualify for financial assistance from the Foundation. If it is determined that the need qualifies for assistance, the Facilitator will work with Berger Health Foundation on behalf of the employee to make the financial assistance arrangements.

All employees, including contract employees, who have worked at Berger Health System for at least six months and are in good standing with the organization are eligible to apply for assistance. Employees working for less than six months will be directed to the Employee Assistance Program or local service providers for professional guidance.

The amount of assistance provided through the Berger Family Assistance Fund is generally limited to a maximum of up to $500 per year/per employee. However, each case is handled on an individual basis. Employees never receive cash and will not be reimbursed. If a need meets the qualifications, bills and invoices would be submitted to a Berger Family Assistance Fund Facilitator and paid by the Foundation directly to the provider on behalf of the employee.

Berger Health Foundation is proud to accept employee contributions designated to benefit the Berger Family Assistance Fund. Gifts from employees provide the financial support that makes the assistance possible. Employees are welcome to offer a payroll deduction pledge, one-time payroll deduction or cash. One hundred percent of all gifts benefit the Berger Family Assistance Fund. Many employees choose to make their contribution during the annual employee giving campaign (held each May), however cash gifts are accepted year-round and gift forms may be found on the Berger Intranet or by clicking here.

For more information contact the Berger Health Foundation Executive Director, Larry Halm, at 740.420.8209. Please make checks payable to Berger Health Foundation, 600 North Pickaway Street, Circleville, OH 43113. Be sure to indicate that your gift is in support of scholarships, as well as if it is in memory or honor of a loved one.
