Vascular ScreeningsVascular disease can produce strokes, which serve as the third leading cause of death in the United States. Preventing a stroke begins with early detection, if you are over the age of 50 and have any of these risk factors, you may want to consider a vascular screening.
Carotid Artery ScreeningA carotid ultrasound is used to test for carotid artery disease. It uses ultrasound technology to view the inside of your carotid arteries, looking for plaque, blockages and narrowing. Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening (AAA)Aneurysms are a major health problem, because the majority produce no symptoms. The ultrasound is used to view images and measurements of the abdomen. If the abdominal aorta is enlarged, it may suggest the existence of an aneurysm. Ankle Brachial Index (ABI)Peripherial Arterial Disease (PAD) is a form of atherosclerosis, a disease that involves the hardening and narrowing of the arteries. One way to detect for early signs of PAD is to evaluate blood circulation in the legs. An ABI measures blood pressure in both the ankle and arm using blood pressure cuffs and an ultrasound. Together the two pressure produce a measurement that determines the ABI. If the ABI is abnormal, it is an indicator that PAD may exist. A complete vascular screening package is available at Berger for only $100 and includes a carotid artery, abdominal aortic aneursym, and ankle brachial screenings. Individual screenings are available for $35. Each screening is preformed by an ultrasound technologist, then reviewed and interpreted by an Interventional Radiologist. |
