(CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio) –Berger Health System honored its volunteers on Tuesday, April 17 at the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon held at Emmett Chapel Church. The event was held in conjunction with National Volunteer Week – April 15-21.
Berger acknowledged five specialized volunteer groups consisting of 281 volunteers that donate over 12,900 hours annually to patients, staff and the community. Don McIlroy, mayor of Circleville, presented a proclamation to the volunteers before they received yearly service awards for their individual accomplishments. Berger’s Leadership team members acted as servers throughout the luncheon then concluded the event as hat models in a style show carrying out the theme “Hats off to our volunteers.”
Berger volunteers consist of the following groups:
Circle of Caring Volunteers provide assistance to the frail, elderly and disabled individuals in our community in an effort to help them maintain their independence, dignity and quality of life in their own homes. Typically, volunteers assist with transportation, yard work, handyman chores, light housekeeping, friendly visiting and phoning, respite care, and ramp building.
Berger Gift Shop Volunteers staff and manage the Gift Shop at Berger Hospital. Proceeds from the Gift Shop are used to purchase patient care equipment at Berger Hospital. In addition, the Gift Shop offers scholarships to local students entering a healthcare field.
Berger Hospital Volunteers donate thousands of hours annually at Berger Hospital. Their many volunteer activities include staffing the hospital information desk, transporting patients within the hospital, delivering flowers and newspapers to patients, and providing needed assistance to the various departments within the hospital.
Berger Hospice Volunteers are caring individuals who provide support and assistance to terminally ill patients while also addressing the needs and concerns of the patient’s family. Berger Hospice is the only not-for-profit hospice care in Circleville, providing care to patients regardless of their ability to pay.
Friends of Berger Volunteers are an active fundraising group with a primary mission to raise funds to support continuing education for Berger Hospital employees. This group’s major fundraiser is the Annual Holiday Food Sale held at the hospital.
If you would like the opportunity to help others while giving back to the community, please consider volunteering.
