(CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio) – Standing out amongst a crowd of over 3,200 participants, Berger Health System’s seven-foot tall Bentley Beagle joined 16 area mascots in supporting Lifeline of Ohio’s Dash for Donation.
The 12th annual running of the event was held Saturday morning (July 9) on Nationwide Blvd. in Columbus’ Arena District. Helping raise awareness for the impact of organ and tissue donation through the Donate Life campaign, Lifeline of Ohio is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote and coordinate the donation of human organs and tissue for transplantation.
Coordinated through the efforts of more than 200 volunteers, the event’s participants created a “Sea of Green” with participant t-shirts throughout the streets of Columbus with three unique races for all levels of participants. Bentley kicked off the event in the Mascot and Kids’ Dash alongside participants age six and under and area friends Stinger (Columbus Blue Jackets), Lou Seal (Columbus Clippers) and Honey Bee (Lifeline of Ohio).
The 100-yard race ran down to the wire, with a handful of birds, dancing cookies, dogs and insects taking a convincing early lead. Mass confusion and a pile-up at the finish line saw the mascots tumble to the back of the pack as area children broke the finish line first and took the title.
A 1K family fun walk and 5K run rounded out the event. In all 3,257 runners and walkers participated in the event on 120 teams, with 28 different states represented among them.
