Patient Safety
The entire health care team at Berger Health System is committed to making patient safety an
essential element in the services we provide to our patients and their families.
You and your family are vital members of our healthcare team. The doctors, nurses, pharmacists,
social workers, and others who serve you are trained to help you understand symptoms, hospital procedures,
and medications. If you don't understand something or have questions or concerns regarding any of
your care, ask your nurse or physician.
The best way you can help to prevent medical errors is to get involved in your own care. Take part
in all decisions about your treatment. Follow all the instructions. Understand and know what medications
you are taking, and report any problems or concerns that you might have immediately.
Be sure to ask questions before you leave the hospital so you know what medications you should take,
what activities you should engage in, and what eating plan you should follow. Make sure you let your
physician or social worker know if you will need special care or equipment when you go home.
Get involved and stay involved in your care. Our primary goal and commitment is to provide the highest level
of quality care to help you achieve your optimal health. Together we can make it happen.
As a service to our patients and our community, Berger Health System makes available a brochure
published by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. "Speak Up" provides information
about how you can participate in making your healthcare safe. Berger Health System has also adopted a statement
of Patient Rights and Responsibilities designed to protect the interests
and well being of our patients.
