Payne Nominated as Health Care Worker of Year

Wilma Payne, patient care associate at Berger, was recently nominated for the Ohio Hospital Association's Health Care Worker of the Year.

Circleville, OH -- July 9, 2007 Wilma Payne, patient care associate for Berger Health System, was recently honored for her commitment to patient care, as one of 86 nominees for the Ohio Hospital Association's Albert E. Dyckes Health Care Worker of the Year Award.

This award is given annually to recognize employees of Ohio hospitals and health care systems who are outstanding health care workers as demonstrated by leadership, reflecting the values and ideals of Ohio's health care facilities, going above and beyond the call of duty, giving back to the community and overcoming odds to succeed.

Every Ohio hospital was invited to nominate one candidate. The finalists and all nominees were recognized on Monday, June 18 at the OHA Annual Recognition Dinner at the Hilton at Easton.

Wilma is a patient care associate at Berger Health System, where she assists nursing staff with changing linens, giving baths and serving meals. A selfless, humble woman, Wilma is known for treating her patients like family, and always gives that little bit of extra time to make them feel special.

At age 70, her deep commitment to service and strong personal values are reflected daily at both work and home. She made an ultimate gift of "giving back" when she took on the responsibility to raise her two grandchildren in 1991, when her daughter died at the young age of 29.

Wilma's co-workers admire her energetic spirit and commitment to compassionate care. According to Deirdre Fisher, Director of Inpatient Services, "You expect to see a halo over her head. She consistently goes above the call of duty when caring for patients. I know she will always take the extra step to make sure they are comfortable."
