Dixie Walker Dixie Walker

Dixie's art was showcased in the ArtsaRound Gallery at Berger during its first exhibit. She quickly became a favorite, and many of those who enjoyed visiting the gallery purchased her pieces so they could continue to enjoy her work on their walls at home. Dixie's art reveals her enjoyment of life and traveling and her unique ability to capture the beauty of nature with her photography talent and skills.

Dixie lives in Circleville and when she is not traveling or photographing, she serves on the Berger Health System team in the Emergency Department.

Tom Hubbard Tom Hubbard

Tom Hubbard was a local television director for 10 years in Norfolk, VA and Atlanta, GA before switching to newspaper photojournalism. He moved to the Cincinnati Enquirer for 12 years. While at the Enquirer, he won 22 Ohio awards for photojournalism and two national awards, including a National Press Photographers Association award for best photo story coverage of the Senate Watergate hearings.

Hubbard did freelance photojournalism from 1978 to 1983, primarily doing work for local hospitals and for Black Star Photo Agency in New York. His Black Star assignments have appeared in many national magazines including Time, People Weekly, TV Guide, US Magazine, The New York Times, BusinessWeek, Fortune, Barrons, Der Spiegel, Family Circle, Good Housekeeping, etc.

Hubbard's work has been exhibited at the Contemporary Art Center and the Taft Museum in Cincinatti, Ohio, and the Columbus Museum of Art, LeVeque Tower, Franklin University, Ohio Dominican College, Gallery 853, Fifth Avenue Gallery, Mahon Gallery, High Road Gallery, The Ohio State University and The Ohio State Fair in Columbus, Ohio, and at the Graduate School of Journalism at California State University at Berkeley and The US General Services Administration building in Washington, DC.

Hubbard holds a Master's from the University of Cincinnati. He taught photojournalism at The Ohio State University School of Journalism and Communication from 1983 to 1998. In 1988, he was cited as an outstanding graduate of the University of Cincinnati Department of Communication. In 1993, he received the Ohio News Photographers Association yearly service award. He received the Ohio Art League Service Award in 2004.

Hubbard has written over a dozen articles for various publications, on newspaper photojournalism. They include Editor & Publisher and News Photographer (National Press Photographers Association magazine) and various national, state, and regional photojournalism and academic publications. Hubbard has consulted with newspapers in Alabama, Indiana, Kansas, and Michigan on creative use of photography and photographers.

Hubbard lives in Galloway, Ohio, with his wife, four dogs, and four cats... might be five cats. A gray one is hanging around.

The art gallery at Berger Hospital is the result of a partnership between ArtsaRound and Berger Health System. ArtsaRound is a community based organization dedicated to supporting art and artists in Pickaway County and the regional area. Berger Health System is a community based health care system dedicated to providing quality care so that people do not need to travel outside of their own backyard to have their health care needs met.

The mission of the ArtsaRound Gallery at Berger is to foster the relationship between art and healing by providing a venue for artists, primarily from, but not limited to, Pickaway County and the regional area, to offer their work for the aesthetic pleasure of patients, visitors, and staff. The initiatives of this unique program also contribute to the success of Berger Hospital's mission "to be the best community hospital in the State of Ohio."
