VanHorn Receives Award for Tissue and Organ Donation Efforts

Circleville, OH -- October 7, 2005 Cathy VanHorn, registered nurse and patient care coordinator at Berger Health System, was recently honored by Lifeline of Ohio (LOOP) for her role in saving lives through organ and tissue donation.

VanHorn received the Orion Award at Lifeline's fifth annual "Evening with the Stars" ceremony in Columbus on Saturday, Oct. 1. The Orion Award recognizes the dedication and innovation of a hospital liaison who promotes organ and tissue donation.

According to Andie Brown, Lifeline's hospital relations representative, "Cathy has truly risen above the rest in her efforts to make organ and tissue donation in her hospital a dedicated priority. Her partnership with LOOP and her leadership role within the hospital benefit those she works with -- both patients and staff -- through education and dedication."

Brown added, "she has involved herself in bringing awareness to the community as well, and is active in ensuring donation materials are displayed at local health fairs and that the message is shared through the local media. LOOP's success in working with Berger Health System has been due -- in no small measure -- to the high standards Cathy sets for herself as well as those involved in the donation process."
