Circleville, OH -- November 28, 2005
The Berger Hospital Gift Shop recently donated patient care equipment to the Maternity Department at Berger Hospital. The
department received a BiliChek Noninvasive Bilirubin Analyzer, a new noninvasive technology used to perform bilirubin analyses.
Using light instead of a needle, the BiliCheck allows bilirubin levels for infants to be tested without needing a blood sample.
Resting lightly on the newborn's head or sternum, this hand-held unity gives almost instantaneous results -- allowing physicians
and staff to make treatment decisions much faster. The BiliCheck alleviates the need for a heel-stick blood test.
"Our nurses are thrilled to have this new equipment. It allows a noninvasive and pain-free method to determine an infant's
bilirubin level," said Sherry Shmidt, Berger's Maternity Manager. "We truly appreciate the Gift Shop's generosity. Their efforts
make it possible to provide our newborns with the kindest, gentlest care and most up-to-date technology."
Proceeds from the Berger Hospital Gift Shop help support the purchase of patient care equipment at Berger Hospital. The group
provides, on average, over $40,000 of support annually.
