Berger Honors Volunteer Groups

Circleville, OH -- May 11, 2005 Berger Health System recently honored its over 350 volunteers at the Annual Volunteer Luncheon held at Crown Hill Golf Club. The event was held in conjunction with National Volunteer Week, April 17-23.

Each of Berger's five volunteer groups shared updates about their individual accomplishments, and the Westfall Elementary Student Ambassador Choir provided entertainment.

Berger volunteers consist of the following groups:

Circle of Caring Volunteers provide assistance to the frail, elderly, and disabled individuals in our community in an effort to help them maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life in their own homes. Typically, volunteers assist with transportation, yard work, handyman chores, light housekeeping, friendly visiting and phoning, respite care, and ramp building.

Berger Gift Shop Volunteers staff and manage the Gift Shop at Berger Hospital. Proceeds from the Gift Shop are used to purchase patient care equipment at Berger Hospital. In addition, the Gift Shop offers scholarships to local students entering a healthcare field. The Gift Shop donates, on average, between $35,000 to $50,000 annually.

Berger Hospital Volunteers donate over 14,000 hours annually at Berger Hospital. Their many volunteer activities include staffing the hospital information desk, transporting patients within the hospital, delivering flowers and newspapers to patients, and providing needed assistance to the various departments within the hospital.

Hospice of Pickaway County Volunteers are caring individuals who provide support and assistance to terminally ill patients while also addressing the needs and concerns of the patient's family. Hospice of Pickaway County is the only not-for-profit hospice care in Circleville, providing care to patients regardless of their ability to pay.

Friends of Berger Volunteers are an active fundraising group with a primary mission to raise funds to support continuing education for Berger Hospital employees. This group's major fundraiser is the annual holiday food sale held at the hospital.

If you would like the opportunity to help others while giving back to the community, please consider volunteering. For more information, contact Deborah Holt, Director of Volunteers, at 740.420.8464 or by email at deborah.holt@bergerhealth.com.
