The Rehabilitation Center at Berger Hospital to Celebrate 10th Anniversary During National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, September 18-23

Circleville, OH -- August 29, 2005 The Rehabilitation Center at Berger Hospital will celebrate its 10th Anniversary during National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, September 18-23. During this week, the Rehab Center will host numerous events to build awareness in the community about rehabilitation services. The purpose of Rehab Week is to promote the value of restoring functional abilities and highlight the capabilities of disabled individuals. It is also a time to acknowledge professionals in the industry and renew our commitment to fulfill unmet needs of those with disabilities in Pickaway and surrounding counties.

Activities planned for patients, their families, and staff will include:

Sunday, September 18 Tune into your radio on The Big WAZU 107.1 at 7 a.m. for Dr. James Sardo's "Berger Beat" interview with John Stout. You can also see this interview on CGTV-5 throughout September.
Monday, September 19 The Rehab Kick-Off Celebration will begin with community education lectures and exhibits at the following libraries: Pickaway County District Library at 1 p.m., and Ross County Districy Library at 7 p.m., where Dr. Daniel Ianna will be the guest speaker on "Treatment Options for Arthritis of the Knee." These events are open to the public.
Tuesday, September 20 Fairfield County District Library will host a Rehab Week exhibit. Bret Harbage from Ohio Independent Center for Independent Living and Patrick Smith of the Adaptive Sports Coalition will speak at 6:30 p.m.
Tuesday, September 20 Make a free ice cream sundae while participating in the annual Sensitivity to Rehabilitation Disabilities Demonstration, being held at the Berger Hospital cafeteria from 11:45 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. Open to the public.
Tuesday, September 20 Pickaway Senior Center Line Dancers will perform at 2:30 p.m. in The Rehabilitation Center's dining room at Berger Hospital.
Wednesday, September 21 Dr. Sardo will host a community lecture on "Treating Patients with Rehabilitation After Stroke" at 6 p.m. at Berger Hospital, Community Room, 600 N. Pickaway St. Open to the public. For reservations, call 740.420.8390.
Thursday, September 22 Basket Weaving demonstration with Millie Finsel, at 6 p.m., in the Berger Rehab Center dining room, sponsored by Constance Care. Open to patients and their families.
Friday, September 23 Celebration Ceremony and Patient Reunion featuring the 2005 Rehab Dessert Challenge. Festivities will begin at 1 p.m. in the Medical Office Building at Berger Hospital. All entries must be registered by Sept. 21.
