Berger Health Foundation Elects Leadership

Circleville, OH -- October 11, 2004 Berger Hospital's new charitable foundation, the Berger Health Foundation, recently elected its first full Board of Firectors during its annual foundation membership meeting. The Board subsequently elected officers and executive committee members during its first Board meeting.

Board officers are Bob McKelvey, President; Larry Elliott, Vice President; Hugh Harmount, Treasurer; and Doris Gillespie, Secretary. Executive committee members are Kelly Feeley, Pat Hughey, Gunni Long, Susan Strawser and Judy Suver. The remainder of the Board includes Andy Chileski, Amy Coatney, Tim Colburn, Ann Cook, Dr. Gary Gillen, Sr. Monica Justinger, Sandy Rudawsky, Dr. James Sardo, Larry Thornhill. and Ron Thornton.

"This Board is an outstanding group of community leaders who have stepped forward to commit time and energy to promote philanthropy that will help Berger Hospital continue to expand healthcare services and facilities throughout all of Pickaway County," said Joe Barylak, Foundation Executive Director. "The Foundation and its leadership will be key as we pursue financial support from individuals and corporations in Pickaway County who value the long term growth and quality of healthcare in the Pickaway County area."

According to Barylak, charitable foundations are common among community hospitals across the United States. Foundations solicit and accept contributions, major financial or non-financial gifts, and bequests that come from individuals, corporations or organizations that have a strong appreciation for Berger Hospital. Gifts to the Foundation can be restricted by the donor for a specific program (e.g. care for the medically indigent) or unrestricted, which enables Berger to apply the funds for services and/or equipment where there is the greatest need. Barylak concluded, "the staff at Berger is proud of the excellent healthcare it consistently provides for our residents, and financial support of the Berger Health Foundation is one way for people to be a part of a wonderful legacy."
