Press Releases
Circleville, OH -- March 26, 2004
The dining experience for Rehabilitation patients at Berger Hospital has recently been transformed to offer patients a formal
restaurant-style experience.
"We want to make sure we are meeting patients' needs," said Connie Kelly, Berger's Vice President of Patient Care Services.
"The goal of this new dining format is to acclimate Rehab patients to the community again. When they return home, we want them
to feel comfortable going to restaurants, using non-adaptive equipment."
The dining experience takes place every Thursday evening and is hosted by Berger's Rehabilitation, Occupational Therapy,
and Nutritional Services Departments. The patients work with the occupational therapists to transform the Rehab dining area into a
homelike environment by dressing the tables with linens, fine dinnerware, goblets, cutlery, and serving pieces. The mean is
served restaurant-style, where patients actually order from a menu, and family members are invited to participate.
The experience engages patients in exercising various therapeutic modalities in the areas of cognitive, speech, and community
re-entry, in an effort to restore normal functioning when they return home.
