Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy... Part of a Healthy Life Style

What is Massage Therapy?

A therapeutic massage is a complementary therapy to traditional medical treatments. The key benefits of a therapeutic massage are:

Mental
Massage therapy provides a relaxed state of alertness, reduces mental stress and enhances capacity for calm thinking and creativity.

Physical
Massage therapy is designed to stretch and loosen muscles, improve blood flow and the movement of lymph throughout the body, facilitate the removal of metabolic wastes resulting from exercise or inactivity, and increase the flow of oxygen and nutrients to cells and tissue. In addition, massage stimulates the release of endorphins -- the body's natural painkiller -- into the brain and nervous system.

Emotional
Massage therapy satisfies the need for a caring, nurturing touch while creating a feeling of well-being and reduced anxiety levels.

Massage Therapy Comes in Many Forms.

  • Swedish (a gentle, relaxing massage)
  • Pressure point therapy (for specific diseases or injuries)
  • Sports massage (focusing on muscle groups relevant to a particular sport)
  • Hot stone massage - a specialty massage that uses smooth, heated stones. The stones help to absorb and retain heat. This is a deeply soothing, relaxing form of massage. The heat helps tight muscles release.
  • Reiki - a therapy used to channel energy in a particular pattern to heal and harmonize. Unlike other healing therapies, Reiki seeks to restore order to the body whose vital energy has become unbalanced. Reiki energy has several basic effects: it brings about deep relaxation, destroys energy blockages, detoxifies the system, and provides new vitality in the form of healing universal life energy.

Everyone can benefit from massage therapy, regardless of age. A professional massage can have special applications, specifically suited to an individual's needs.
